ASL Animals 1.0

This application provides an engaging and educational experience for children, introducing them to a variety of animals while teaching American Sign Language. Designed to support both hearing and deaf children, ASL Animals features 36 animals along with their young, offering high-quality images and sign language videos presented by Cynthia, a nationally certified interpreter. The interface allows users to navigate easily through three boards, each displaying 12 animal pictures for selection.

Given the natural gesture-based communication tendencies observed in young children—even prior to speech development—early introduction to sign language can significantly enhance their ability to express emotions and needs. This app supports such developmental needs by providing simple sign language lessons appropriate for children starting at seven months old, fostering early social and cognitive skills.

The appeal of animals for young children is well recognized, and this app leverages that interest by including vivid HD photos of animals and their babies, complemented by corresponding sign language videos, animal sounds, and voice-over labels. The selection includes a diverse range of species, from domestic animals like dogs and cats to wild animals such as lions and elephants.
